10 Tips for taking care of your hair – L'Artisan Brossier

Hair plays a crucial role in our appearance and personal confidence. Whether long or short, curly or straight, healthy or damaged, our hair needs regular care to stay healthy. We will give you 10 practical tips to help you take care of your hair, whatever its type. Whether you are looking for solutions to repair your damaged hair or simply want to maintain its natural shine, these tips are for you!

1. Know your hair type

Before you start buying hair products, it is essential to know your hair type. Each type of hair, whether dry, greasy, normal, curly or straight, has specific needs. Oily hair requires care that regulates sebum production, while dry hair needs daily hydration.

To determine your hair type, observe it throughout the day and after washing. Oily hair will tend to become oily quickly, while dry hair will appear dull and fragile. Once you have identified your hair type, you can choose suitable products and establish an effective care routine.

2. Choose the right hair products

The choice of hair products is crucial to maintain the health of your hair. A shampoo appropriate to your hair type can make all the difference. For example, if you have dry hair, opt for sulfate-free moisturizing shampoos that will gently cleanse without removing natural oils, such as those offered by Yves Rocher, designed to clean your hair while respecting its natural hydration.

Conditioner is just as important for nourishing and detangling hair without weighing it down. For curly hair, a conditioner rich in moisturizing agents is ideal. In addition, the use of weekly hair masks, serums or oils can provide an additional dose of care, depending on the needs of your hair.

3. Avoid too frequent washing

Washing your hair too often can lead to dehydration of the scalp and hair. Indeed, each wash removes natural oils that protect and nourish the hair. Additionally, it can encourage the scalp to produce more sebum to compensate, thus creating a vicious circle.

It is recommended to find a balance that suits your hair type. For example, dry hair can be washed every three to four days, while oily hair may require washing every two days. If you have normal hair, a wash every two or three days is often enough.

4. Use natural care

Natural products are more and more popular for hair care. They are often less aggressive and more respectful of the scalp balance. For example, coconut oil is an excellent natural moisturizer, particularly beneficial for dry or damaged hair. Aloe vera is also recognized for its soothing and moisturizing properties.

You can also prepare homemade masks using simple ingredients like honey, yogurt or avocados. These masks deeply nourish the hair and can be customized to your specific hair needs. Visit this page to discover our natural mask ideas.

5. Protect your hair from heat

Heated tools like hair dryers, straighteners or curling irons can damage hair if used frequently. Excessive heat can lead to hair breakage and make it dull and fragile.

To minimize damage, it is essential to use a thermal protector before using any heating tool. This type of product creates a barrier between the heat and your hair, thus reducing the risk of damage. Also try to limit the use of these tools once or twice a week, and prioritize moderate temperatures.

6. Take care of your scalp

A healthy scalp is the key to healthy hair. The scalp, like facial skin, needs to be cleansed, exfoliated and hydrated. Regular massages of the scalp stimulate blood circulation and promote faster hair growth.

The exfoliation of the scalp, either with a specific scrub or a gentle brushing, allows to eliminate dead cells and hair product residues. In addition, the application of specific oils such as castor oil or tea tree oil can help balance sebum production and soothe irritation—like the Phyto brand exfoliant.

7. Adopt a balanced diet

Diet plays a major role in the health of your hair. A diet rich in vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids nourishes your hair from the inside. For example, B vitamins, found in nuts and whole grains, are essential for hair growth. Omega-3, found in oily fish like salmon, helps to maintain the hydration of hair and scalp.

Make sure you consume enough fruits and vegetables to provide your body with the antioxidants needed to protect hair cells. A varied and balanced diet is a direct investment in your hair health. Go to this page for even more tips.

8. Avoid too tight hairstyles

Too tight hairstyles, such as high ponytails or tight braids, can cause tension in the hair and scalp, leading to premature breakage and traction problems. If these hairstyles are worn too often, they can even cause traction alopecia, hair loss due to excessive tension.

Prioritize protective and less aggressive hairstyles, such as loose braids or low buns. When tying your hair, use metal-free elastics or soft accessories that do not break the hair.

9. Regularly cut the tips

Even if you want to grow your hair, it is essential to regularly cut the ends to avoid split ends. The split ends can extend along the length of the hair, resulting in greater breakage. By cutting the tips every two to three months, you keep your hair healthy and promote its growth.

If you have long hair, cutting a few centimeters is usually enough to remove damaged ends without affecting the length.

10. Protect your hair during the night

At night, our hair may experience friction against the pillow, which can make it more vulnerable to breakage. To protect your hair, use a silk or satin pillowcase. These materials reduce friction and preserve the natural hydration of the hair.

You can also tie your hair in a loose braid or a low bun before sleeping. This avoids knots and breaks during the night. If you have particularly fragile or curly hair, wearing a silk or satin night cap can be a good solution. Discover our article on hair and the night right here!
